of a device (read-only).
Configuration would be instructions on how to change that state
(something that you then apply/write to a device, usually transformed to
the correct platform).
So these are the two things -- one (monitoring) you read from a device
to obtain its current state, the other (configuration) you write/apply
to a device to change its current state.</pre>
