Hey Ben,

you're mentioning OpenWRT, but I'm not interested in having a real
network to test.

At the moment I'm just implementing synchronization of
georeferenced records between two different web applications that
manage georeferenced data and have an HTTP API available.

So, I would like to avoid spending time in installing stuff, I
would just like somebody to come and say, here it is your test
layer at this URL, here's the doc on how to perform inserts. I'm
quite confident I can get it working in few hours.

I know, sounds demanding doesn't it? Trying doesn't hurt. If I
can't get that kind of request satisfied now I will go through the
installation stuff only when I will have time. But I wanted to
demonstrate this concept quickly.

My point is: in some cases different applications might be able to
interoperate (to a certain extent) without the need of a common
API. And I want to show you my idea, which is a very simple
implementation after all, definitely not rocket science :-).
Whilst scanning the flood of recent activity on this list, I
noticed your question about testing openwifimap, et al.

If this is helpful, I've been testing out OpenWRT-derivatives
under VMware, connected to a physical ath9k_htc radio via USB.
Specifically, this was done for the Commotion Wireless project,
but the (moderately out of date *) instructions I posted on their
wiki are applicable to other OpenWRTs too.

If you don't mind compiling your firmware stack for x86, this
VMware method might be useful for testing.

* I have a patch to make adhoc + AP work with ath9k_htc driver,
which I can share if needed.
thank you. Is there a chance I can have a testing layer on

perhaps you want to checkout openwifimap [1]. The database is based on
couchDB and has a REST API which is described in [2,3]. As the name
suggests the DB is open for all communities and it can be setup in a
decentralized manner with couchDB's builtin replication. It's quite new
so there are few nodes but it scales well (tested with ~50.000 nodes).
Feel free to play around and please let me know about any progress or
problems!
cheers from Berlin,
André
