I had assumed many of the nodes to be catalogued were using a derivative of OpenWRT, and thus offered the VMware virtualization tips, which I'm using for my own firmware development purposes, including testing.<br>
<br>I'm afraid I otherwise have no affiliation with openwifimap, or with any of the other node DB tools mentioned in this thread.<br><br>Still, I do hope you find success in locating an appropriate testing harness for these tools.<br>

can't get that kind of request satisfied now I will go through the
installation stuff only when I will have time. But I wanted to
demonstrate this concept quickly.<br>

My point is: in some cases different applications might be able to
interoperate (to a certain extent) without the need of a common
API. And I want to show you my idea, which is a very simple
implementation after all, definitely not rocket science :-).<br>

<pre>perhaps you want to checkout openwifimap [1]. The database is based on
couchDB and has a REST API which is described in [2,3]. As the name
suggests the DB is open for all communities and it can be setup in a
decentralized manner with couchDB's builtin replication. It's quite new
so there are few nodes but it scales well (tested with ~50.000 nodes).
Feel free to play around and please let me know about any progress or
problems!
