Hi Federico,

Whilst scanning the flood of recent activity on this list, I noticed your question about testing openwifimap, et al.

If this is helpful, I've been testing out OpenWRT-derivatives under VMware, connected to a physical ath9k_htc radio via USB. Specifically, this was done for the Commotion Wireless project, but the (moderately out of date *) instructions I posted on their wiki are applicable to other OpenWRTs too.

https://code.commotionwireless.net/projects/commotion/wiki/VMware-Player

If you don't mind compiling your firmware stack for x86, this VMware method might be useful for testing.

* I have a patch to make adhoc + AP work with ath9k_htc driver, which I can share if needed.

On Tue, Jul 30, 2013 at 11:03 AM, Federico Capoano <federico@nemesisdesign.net> wrote:

thank you. Is there a chance I can have a testing layer on which
to perform some quick tests without having to install it locally?

perhaps you want to checkout openwifimap [1]. The database is based on
couchDB and has a REST API which is described in [2,3]. As the name
suggests the DB is open for all communities and it can be setup in a
decentralized manner with couchDB's builtin replication. It's quite new
so there are few nodes but it scales well (tested with ~50.000 nodes).
Feel free to play around and please let me know about any progress or
problems!
cheers from Berlin,
André
